  • What has happened to my courgettes?

    Hi

I have grown some courgettes this year - they have grown really well but not a sign of a courgette? They have grown loads of yellow flowers but no courgettes.

I grew them once before and don't remember doing anything apart from leaving them and harvesting loads.

What am I missing this year and is too late?

They are taking up lots of space in the very little space I have so would like to see them do something.

    thanks

Where are you, where are they, when did you plant them, etc ...?

they are in a raised bed in our back garden. I planted them from seed into the ground about 2 months ago. they show all the signs of being courgettes except the veg. ie good sized plants lots of yellow flowers - but nothing growing behind them.

i think they need to be pulled up and crossed of my growing list - i'll replace with beans because they have grown magic.

i had the same problem last year. All male flowers, no female flowers. No idea what caused it because i gave my mum some of my surplus seedlings and they did fine for her!
This year, i have grown the same variety of courgette with great success.

Mine have flowered ok but all the fruits are rotting on the plants. I have a free draining soil, watered them in the dry spells but they are all covered in grey fuzzy stuff. Is that the problem. Help - anyone!

If the fruits are rotting then they may not have been pollinated. Do you have plenty of bees around? The grey fuzzy stuff sounds like powdery mildew which they are prone to and is caused by them being too dry. You need to put loads of muck under them before planting them in order to feed them and keep them from drying out. I also - as do others -sink a bottle next to them in the soil and water into that so that the water goes deep to the roots.
