Baby sweetcorn

[Strawberry delight]

This is my first time growing babysweetcorn,or any type of corn! so i was wondering how to tell if it is ready.

Any help would be fantastic!

When you say baby, do you mean the stirfry type of mini corn? Pick that when it looks the right size, ie about thumb length

I think it's when the silks are still 'white'. But you'll have to peel back the covers on one to find out!

That sounds like on the way to full size sweetcorn...? The mini corn is eaten when less than 10cm long

It sounds like your corn has gone past the stage for picking as mini cobs (the stir fry kind) and is well on its way to corn on the cob. You test that for ripeness by peeling back the leaves a bit and checking the corn kernels to see if they are nice and plump and like sweetcorn kernels!

I made the same mistake, I let my mini corn grow too big. It still looks like the stir fry corn but is as tough as old boots.

I tried mini corn (I think Minipop) a few years ago and decided it was a waste of space.

Same here. Thought it was ready the same as normal corn ,when the silks are brown but the middles are inedible. Even the chooks have tuned their noses up!
Shame, I had a good crop- there's always next. That's my learning curve for the year

Me too, I think I will stick to normal corn on the cob next year, they took up a lot of space for very little reward.
