i saw some of these tapes for sale earlier in the year. didn`t buy them though as i thought it was a little gimicky and preferred to stick to doing things the old fashioned way.

seed tapes are really easy to make.
All you need is loo paper a biodegradable adhesive such as a simple syrup
              and tweezer.

I'll be getting my seeds from the allotments seed catalogue from Kings Seeds as we get up to 50% off but some of the old guys on our allotment rave about the seed tapes that Lidl sell! I've not have much luck we Lidl seeds in the past though so will not be trying there seed tape.

I've been thinking about doing that for next year (using a flour and water mixture for the adhesive). I figure it'll help me space out my carrots easier as I'm hopeless and have to spend ages thinning them out! (At least I have pet rats that adore the carrot thinnings...)

I used seed tape from Lidls for carrots this year - can't remember the variety as the ink faded from my labels but they did better than the ones sown the normal way and haven't been as affected by carrot fly despite the fact I didn't fleece them.

this is the first year I've had any success with carrots so I'll definately use them again next year.

I don't use them purely because I don't grow in straight lines and like to plant closer together (I know....I know...) I station sow which seems to work pretty well, raise them in modules then plant out the plants when they are big enough to handle. I know it's a faff but seems to work the best for me.

I know you can make your own using kitchen towel and wallpaper paste (non fungaside ones) and then bury the home made ones the same way as the seed tapes.

I used them for carrots as didn't have good results from usual method and always sowed too many seeds. At the same time, I sowed 1 batch of the same variety by the old method. The seed tapes gave me much better results and they didn't suffer from carrot root fly, unfortunately, the traditional method ones did! will definitely use again for carrots.

I have tried these in the past, including making my own, but have found I get better germination with the traditional method and thinning. I don't understand why the carrot fly left the tape sown seed alone though, while attacking the rest, that's a mystery!
