  • Dog mess

My allotment plot is bordered by gardens, One of the residents frequently lets his dog onto the site and it does its business everywhere. Apparently he has had letters from the local authority asking him to stop, however he is clearly inconsiderate and ignores them and I keep finding little piles everytime I get over there...

Does anybody know of a good deterrent, or has had similar problems?
Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?

"asking him to stop" if they have proof who it is they can fine him. I have two large dogs and it is disgusting when I walk them and find other dogs mess, how hard is it to pick up your own dogs mess

You need to offer to host the dog warden on your plot for a little nocturnal viewing. If he is seen, then he can be fined. Alternatively, can you borrow/hire a battery operated cctv set-up? Or camp out yourself with a camera?

As for a deterrant.. Errmmm.... Battery operated electric fence?

          Nice one

Remember to empty it out of the bag first

            1) Pick it up & put in a big paper bag.
            2) Put it on his door step
            3) Set the bag alight.
            4) knock loudly on his door & run.

You can then have a chuckle as you see the look of shock on his face as he opens his door and sees the burning package on his door step. But don't let him hear your laughing as he proceeds to stamp on the bag to extinguish the fire.

Under his doormat preferably or under his car-door handle My gransons have been picking up after their dogs since they were six. In fact this was a stipulation before they could have a puppy.

I'm loving these ideas! I have actually witnessed the dog being let out of the gate by it's owner, then sniff around my neighbours potato's and have a cr@p...Its making me angry thinking about it!!

I'm embarassed to say that I'm a Police Officer and I've never heard of a dog warden, but perhaps I can contact them and provide a statement for them to post a nice juicy fine through his letter box.

A friend of mine is one, covering one of the big London parks: he gets lots of abuse for telling owner to "pick up"

If you have access to a hosepipe, you could try the STV Water Jet Spray Blaster Repeller. It attaches to a hose and is activated when an animal passes by, with a five second burst of water jet. It covers a distance of up to 10 metres in an arc of up to 120 degrees. Uses batteries and you shouldn't need to use it for too long before the idea of 'going' somewhere else sinks in. With a bit of luck, the owner will be in range too!

A few years ago we couldnrt step out of our front door without checking for mess. Its quite dark around here so the chances of walking in it at night were extremley likely. I phoned the dog warden and they came round watching, but I told them they need to come first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
It did stop but it made me laugh when posters were put up on lampost's etc, some at doggie eye level lol.

Seconded... I'm sure he doesn't want to find a huge pile of stinky dog poo outside his shed, or on his veg patch!

Sounds like you need a fence around your garden. Since being nice does not seem to be working and more confrontational method might get you in trouble too!!!
