  • Banana frost protection.

Last year I managed to grow a banana plant from seed (musa sikkimensis or something similar), it was supposed to have been a hardy variety and was planted outside in the "perfect spot" but after the winter we had it died a very quick and messy death even with straw and bubble wrap to keep out the cold.

To my amazement I noticed this morning that it has grown back and is about eight inches high, why/how it has reappeared I have no idea but there it is growing quite happily.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should insulate it this time round to get it through the winter without turning to "mush" again (it's in the ground not a pot). Seeing as it somehow reincarnated itself I want to give it the best chance of still being there next spring!

    Thanks.

I've packed with straw and wrapped in sacking in the past but not decided what I'm doing with the ones I grew this year yet. Seem to remember it's root hardy but not stem hardy so may just put the pot in the cold greenhouse and see what happens.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Mine are inside, as its not that big you could dig it up and pot it to bring inside.
