I've used flower buckets before for my toms but made the drainage holes in the side about a inch up from the base to give the pots a bit of a reservoir, seems to work.

I have always cut a hole in the bottom of a morrisons flower bucket and then placed it on soil in the greenhouse, have had excellent crops for the last 3 years. Tried growbags but they didn't work very well for me. Love that tip from buffs with the towel and bucket, will trial this method this year I think!
