  • Fast Climbers?

    Hi All,

Can anyone suggest a 'fast' climber

I need to cover up a large fence as fast as possible (my fence has gaps between the panels and the neighbours are peeping toms)

As im only renting and the garden is huuuge i dont want to pay for a new fence

I appreciate it will take time but anything you can think of that grows a little faster would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

Russian vine grows really fast - so fast it is known as mile-a minute.

Make sure you really do have room for it - it gets huge.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Just googled them and most people are looking for solutions to get rid of them, seems they are really rampant and to only be used in the biggest of gardens

Think im going to go with Clematis Montana, looks pretty some varieties have fragrant flowers and it looks like they are pretty speedy growers too.

Yay the neighbours will have to find somthing else to peep at thanks!

omg, don't ever plant a Russian Vine !

I'd suggest passiflora caerulea, it's very fast and mine is still covering the fence in deep midwinter

How about a virginia creeper? Or honeysuckle? Or wisteria?

If it's in a sunny spot, then a Passion flower grows very quickly. Pop in a few climbing nasturtium seeds as well for really quick cover.

Plant a selection; Clematis, Passion Flower, climbing Rose, Variegated Ivy...

Most of these will start off slowly, and you won't get much benefit for the first couple of years, but once they've got their feet in...

What does half hardy mean? I'm after something similar to cover maybe 20/30m of fence with a trellis on top (to screen the road), but would like something that'd be able to survive our lovely winters

My clematis montana took over a fence very quickly and despite the weather is still providing reasonable cover.

                          It means not fully hardy

My neighbour has a lovely passion flower which climbs up her tree, and into my garden, very prolific and quick growing.
