    Hi All,

I have some scotch bonnet seeds, been looking through numerous treads and it seems Jan/Feb is the best time to sow.

should i put them in the airing cupboard to germinate then move them once the shoots come up? or will they germinate on a windowsil?

    Cheers!!

Hi Amyrose - welcome to the vine
If you want to grow them this month or next, its best to use a heated propagator (if you have one) if not, you might be lucky by putting them in a very light south facing window, or if this is not possible, then best to wait until light and warmth levels are highter - April or May.

    Hope that helps

Last year I germinated mine in little pots in plastic bags in the airing cupboard - nice and warm. As soon as the seedlings popped up I transferred them to a warm windowsill in one of those seed trays with a clear lid. I'm sure I waited till April to do this.

          Welcome to the Vine AmyRose.

Jeanie beat me to it. I was going to say that to germinate they need warmth & moisture. So if you don't have a heated propagator the airing cupboard will do.

Once they've popped their heads up they then need light, so sowing them this time of year you then need to move them to your sunniest windowsill, but make sure they don't get too cold over night.

The problem with starting them off now is that if they don't get enough sunlight they may struggle or become a bit leggy (tall & thin, straining towards the light). So, if you've plenty of seed you can try some now or you can wait a bit 'til we're getting more hours of sunshine.

Hi Amy, why not try two or three in the airing cupboard as suggested, just to see if you can raise some this way? Have fun
