Hi Folks. Not been around a while due to very poorly husband. Hope I can get back into gardening and such like. Anyway, I have some used compost to put on the veggie plot that had potatoes in. I know I can't use it for more spuds, or tomatoes, but can I use it on the bit of the plot I hope to grow carrots and other root veg. in? Sorry this is probably a dumb question, but I am beginning to lose track of things not having the chance to do veggies last year.

Ann, I grow in containers and often reuse my compost. My only rule is that if any plant has shown signs of disease then that compost is thrown away.

Would anyone recommend mixing it with a little topsoil in case the compost is too rich?

Spuds and carrots
Thanks everyone for all your helpful tips and hints. When it stops raining and the wind stops whistling through the trees, I'll get out and tackle it all.
To F.F., thanks for your good wishes. Sadly, Peter is in a long tunnel with no light at the end of it. He has Motor Neurone Disease, so we just take each day as it comes. At Christmas he was given two years - but who knows. I'm hoping that when the better weather comes I can get someone to put him into his wheel chair so he can sit on the lawn and watch me work on the veggie plot. There's pleasure sure in being mad that only madmen know - Anon
