I need some netting

I finally got to plant a row of parsnips and a row of carrots at the weekend, and the cats have gone and dug it up whilst burying their cat do!

So I obviously need to buy some kind of netting to stop them doing their business on the vegetable patch!

Just wondering if there's any specific type of netting I should use.

I bought netting from instore last year as it was inexpensive. Think it was packaged as pond netting. Worked fine for keeping the cat off the garden but didn't stop the insects that made caterpillers which scoffed my brassicas. Going to try and get old net curtain from the charity shop this year to keep the little blighters off so we get to eat the produce! Good luck

Just regular netting should do, ngg. I use the netting you get from b&q to keep the birds off while my seeds germinate, and it should work for the cats too. You can put some canes at each end of the sowed area with little pots on top and the throw the net over it. But make sure that you peg it down.

Curtain nets bought from charity shops work well. I also used a wire mesh grid stapled to a wooden frame to protect sown seedlings until they germinated. This had the advantage that it could be moved to new beds as required. I also use upside down hanging basket frames for little patches of seeds in borders. I HATE CATES!!

Lidl and Aldi sell netting at this time of year for peas and beans. I think that would do to keep the cats off. It won't keep insects out as it is too open but will do fine for what you need.

Yo NGG. If you mean you need some chicken wire to put around the plot where the veg are planted, DON'T use DIY stores, go to a farm suppliers. 50m of 1.5m Chicken/Rabbit wire mesh is about £20 as opposed to 5m of 1m chicken wire mesh from the Garden Centre/DIY store for £8. 2mx30mmx30mm posts are about 20p each AND the tips are already sharpened! I LOVE farm suppliers me!

Have you seen the Pests section about cats in the garden? Ideas are many and varied, but they certainly need keeping off seedlings. Trouble is cat's like newly dug soil... Wilko have fine netting fairly cheap, especially the black one, shoud deter cats as they get tangled in it!
