I jet wash my patio's and a couple of years ago had a bright idea. Lined all my pots up against the fence and gave them a squirt. Spent the next half hour collecting my pots from the neighbours garden.
Lik Zazen I no longer wash them as routine just dry brush them.

When I'm potting on I have a bucket of water next to me and drop the pots into that, when I've finished they just need lifting out and stacking to dry.
I tapped out all the dry soil, then moaned about the idea of washing them all. OH then suggested the dishwasher, so I used that If I'd said 'I'm going to wash these in the dishwasher' he'd have flipped, but as it was his idea...... He even washed out the filter afterwards for me.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.
I have never told anyone that I don't wash my pots as I assumed I was just *BAD*.
Now I realise I am in good company I feel better
I have thought about putting my 1/4 size seed trays in the dishwasher. Seedlings are probably the most vulnerable stage ... but, touch-wood, I've never had trouble with seedlings ... so they haven't, yet, been washed either
I may be useless at washing down the greenhouse or regularly turning the compost heap, but I excel at annual plant pot/module/seed tray washing. It's a ritual for me in Feb/March. That said, my veg plot is at home and I have a big Belfast sink in the kitchen, so it's a lot easier for me than those grapes with an allotment. ***** fluid everytime, even though the odour lingers for days.
I got hundreds off Freecycle a few weeks back and thought best to wash them first (only the ones i needed, not all of them lol), but that was mainly because i've read you should do so to ensure any lingering nasties are killed off. If the experienced peeps here are saying they don't bother then i guess it mustn't be much of a problem

Good point, although in your case you don't know what the original use of the pots was, and whether "diseased" or not, so washing the first time sounds like a sensible precaution to me.
Life is already far too short to waste it washing pots
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
