another stupid ?

can someone please explain what double digging is and would it be the best way to weed out roots and get rid of twitch I think some call it couch grass? (something like that )

hi, double digging, esentially is bl***y hard work.
you dig a trench two spades deep, normally you would do only one spade deep. you put the top layer of turf upside down in the bottom, then fill back in with the rest, it helps to improve very poor soil and gives deep rooted stuff a helping hand. hope that helps
