Are carrots O.K in a poly and which ones please

Lo all, I'd like to know which carrots are ideal to be grown in a polytunnel and is this raised bed I have made O.K ? if not I'll use it for something else.

The box is 6 foot long 2 foot wide and the compost is a good 7" deep. I'm also wondering which carrot to grow re the depth of soil and warm conditions etc and I want a good croppe nt a mini carrott as we do use a lot of carrots





I have googled it and nantes 2 was suggested on first polytunnels but I would prefer the opinion/recomendations of fellow growers if poss and patricularly re a good cropper

Personally, I like purple carrots, and I really hate the so called (but not) fly resistant ones

I grew Amsterdam Forcing in mine last year and they were brilliant - for some reason no carrot flies at all in the tunnel although some damage to the ones outside even though they were protected. I've sown some more last weekend (about the same time as last year) so am looking forward to them early again this year - think they were about a month earlier than my outside ones last year but they were grown in an open bed in the tunnel - not sure if that would make any difference. I don't grow main crop in the tunnel as I want the space later in the year for other stuff and I grow a lot of main crop carrots - still eating the ones from last year at the moment and we have them every week.

Yup, Nantes or Amsterdam Forcing are probably good choice. We've done blind tasting here of half a dozen varieties grown side-by-side (and of French Beans and some other things too), and although there is a bit of "I prefer This to That", which is contradictory between tasters, in the main the comments are "Well, actually, they all taste way better than Supermarket ones"

So I wouldn't fret too much over variety, choose one suitable for the time of year, and something which has not appeared in a "I would never grow this again" thread.

(Talking of which, when I ask for advice on variety I tend to ask "What not to grow" as the answers seem to be more consistent!)

Indeed I like that tip , I shall check what 'not' to grow

I have just ordered some Nantes and some White lisbon Spring onion seeds so we'll see how it goes.
