Hi all,
Could someone please tell me why peat based compost is frowned upon and cold you reccomend a compost,i have a bq,homebase locally to me-ive been using the bq compost in the purple bags at 3 (60 litre) for a tenner-any advise for a newbie would be appreciated -thanks

You could google, rather than reignite a heated debate

in a nutshell, peat is taken from peat bogs. These have taken millions of years to create, and are home to lots of wildlife. So we dig them up to use as compost

Your choice of growing medium is your choice. See what's available locally, research the peat argument, and make your choice
