I never had any luck with herbs last year, really disappointed i didnt have lots of basil expecially.

have i been watering them too much, i was watering everyday, although i saw a comment about basil, someone saying to plant it and leave it to its own devices.

this year i am going to concentrate on mainly cherry toms, chilis, rocket, mizuna, mixed salad leaves & courgettes

can someone please advise me on watering amounts for these i dont really know if i am underwatering or overwatering them, they are all in roughly 3" pots on my windowsill at the moment

Yes, it makes a big difference, as you are discovering! Over-watering kills more plants than under-watering does.

Get a tray, saucer or even the sink, with an inch of water in it. Stand your pots in there if they feel light. If they don't feel light, then they don't need watering.

Let them drink for 10 mins or so. If you're the impatient type, do this while you're pottering around doing other jobs.

At school I use empty hummous tubs as watering saucers, so the kids can see the water being slurped up. They are amazed
