blackberry? or blackcurrant?
neither are trees really, they're bushes, a blackberry one will go nuts and take over your garden and colonise any bit of space, so train it somewhere, or keep it reined in
a blackcurrant will grow fairly large but won't colonise your garden, it'll turn into a giant bush if you look after it right
you can dig a hole and put compost in the bottom if you like, or just dig the hole and stick a bit of general purpose fertiliser, and mix into the earth, then top dress with manure.

If it's already grown to 3 ft tall it's a blackberry. As Taff says, it's a scrambling plant, not a tree
They grow on wasteland, so that tells you something about their needs: next to none. Just stick it in a hole and let it get on with it
It will indeed go mad: you might want to do erect kind of support for it: http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_...erry_page2.aspLast edited by Two_Sheds; 28-03-2011, 08:42 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
