You do have the browns already: the easiest way is to wrap all your kitchen peelings in a sheet of newspaper, like a chip parcel.

also chuck in loo rolls, egg boxes etc. Scrunched up newspaper creates nice air pockets

The only papers we get are the free ads rags, and I turn them into pots.
Ditto loo rolls... though I usually forget and they all end up being recycled. Grr.
I've been eating more eggs than next door supply us with though, so I'll have to start putting those boxes in the bin with the greens.

i've tried some of that Grotta stuff and I've turned it a little. Turning daleks (whilst pregnant) is quite an experience!!!! I've also watered them slightly and I've bought a garden seive thing.

Going to give them a good going over as soon as I'm on maternity leave!

I'm awaiting delivery of my dalek composter and have just told the OH he has to pee in it - the expression on his face was classic

I don't have the space to actually turn my dalek's so I purchased a tool for the job. A steel pole with two moving tines you just push it to the bottom of the bin and as you pull it back out the tines extend allowing you to mix up the compost.

It may not be as good as actually turning the compost properly but it does get some air in there and it as certainly speeded up the process since I started to use it.

Vicky, honestly it's much easier to lift the whole dalek up and off (rock it a bit to loosen it). Then resite the dalek and refill it. You are aerating & mixing in a one-er

Yep lift the dalek off and resite is the easiest way, if you dont have somewhere else to put it, move the compost out of the way, put the bin back and refill mixing as you go.

Or if you dont have the room for all the faff, compost aerator £12-95 Suttons Paignton.

I think that doing it as suggested above is harder work but produces quicker results I just do not have the room in my garden.
