  • tomato plant possible disater HELP!!!

    mornin all!

With all this lovely sun and warm we have had over the last few days,i decided yesterday to shove my tomatoes and chillies out in the sun for the day-get them off the windowsill and get a bit of sun-do em good i thought!

however, this morning the two tomato plants i was most proud of,the strongest, healthest beasts, have withered leaves :-( what happened?? would to much strong sun of damaged them? will they come back from my "helping"?

really annoyed with myself, wish id just left well alone now :-( cant see it being a temperature issue,it was as warm outside yesterday as it was on my kitchen windowsill, and i got them in about 5ish when the sun had gone but it wasnt cold out there.

will they pull through/come back from this?

Can you post a piccie? That can be very helpful. Anyhoo, is the compost damp or dried out? Beyond that I can't think what has happened - unless the leaves were damp before the sun and then it could be scorch. I am sure the experts will be along soon.

Hiya-i will try and post a pic later, got manic toddler at the moment LOL

the compost was moist-ish when i put them out,and i watered them before i put them back on the windowsill last evening,on further inspection it looks like half the side of a couple of plants has been affected,so maybe they were damp just of that side and they have been scorched-can they recover from a scorching?

I think it depends how bad they are. Give them a few days and see how they go.

My gut reaction to just about anything that happens to tomato seedlings (other than being swallowed whole by a slug or snail) is "it'll be fine"... and I include the top being broken completely off the roots in that too.
They may not like the cold... but they are tough.

i do hope they pull through-these are the only survivors of overwatering of them and there siblings when they 1st came up LOL,ive started loads of tomato seeds and i keep murdering them!

the picture above is the worst of the two plants that have been affected by my "loving care" LOL

Looks like it will be fine to me. It's still standing, got the growing tip and some of the leaves are normal

I'd just nip those leaves off - they are no good to the plant now.

As Zazen says get rid of the damaged leaves they could provide a weak point for some disease or other.

Can I ask was it windy where you are when the plants were out?

Were the leaves wet when you put them in the strong sunshine?

hiya-no they were not visibly wet-ie i hadnt just sprayed/watered them, and they didnt have any droplets on them. I cant recall if it was windy or not-i think there may of been a breeze as i had my washing out as well LOL

i will remove damaged leaves-none of the rest of the plant seems to of been affected thankfully!!
