Sorry if there is a similar thread else where but I used the search feature and didn't come across any thing! So here goes:
Planting in pots, containers and planters planting
I have limited space and one could say I inherited a mud rather than a garden. While I build up pennies to get a digger in, I am using pots, containers and planters. I thought I would share with you what I have used and what I have found the best and cheapest so new shoots and more experienced grapes may use the information to their advantage and hopefully others can expand this thread for further enhancement.
Last year I bought 2 sizes of FLEXI TUBS. I found them cheapest in Asda at £2 and £3 each bought outside of season. They were a £1 dearer in April. The small had courgette plants, 1 in each, swedes, 2 in each, and some companion plants to attract bees. The larger ones housed all my runner beans, approx 7 plants per tub.
I managed to acquire large plant pots from family which grew my tomatoes, 1 plant per pot (and free).
My best requirement was a load of treated wood of all sizes and lengths "donated" from construction sites and wood yards. All these were off cuts and basically was allowed to fill my boot for FREE! I even managed to use a drill and jigsaw for the first time... Go me! My planters range from 1.5ft x .5ft x .5ft to 5ft x 2ft x 2ft. I grew all sorts in these from spinach to leeks to cucumbers.
It really does pay to be cheeky and to go in the cheaper shops such as Asda, B&M and Chillies also try looking in local £1 shops for super bargains.
Hope this has helped, even someone to have a more productive small space!
