Onions and radishes

About 4 weeks ago I planted radishes from seed and some onion sets amongst other things.

The onions now have high leaves (sprouts?) on them and the radishes are in full leaf.

My question is, how long do I wait before taking them out and scoffing the lot?

This is the first of many questions that I have..... so thank you in advance for your patience

Check your radish pack and it should tell you but radish are a fast crop normally about a month after germination and there ready to pick ..
Onions are a little longer thay will be in the ground until all the leafs start to yellow I believe would take a few months but I should think youl have a more expireanced member a long soon who will set you straight it's my first year for onions and I'm growing mine from seed but will get some sets out next week when I have time but good luck for the growing season ahead .

There's no sign of any life..... should there be?

Carrots like warm soil, mine have only just appeared in the greenhouse

They also get grazed off by slugs, so that might be a problem

Thanks - they can't be eaten by slugs as they are off the ground.....(she said, hopefully).

I'll start some more in the greenhouse

What makes you think slugs don't climb/ parachute in?
All my carrots in pots last year got grazed by slugs/snails.

They are also in a 2 metre trug that's 2 foot off the ground.

I'm hopeful...... but then I am in most aspects of my life

I have planted successional sowings of carrots in containers outside and they seem to germinate within 14 days now, whereas in march it took about 21 days. So far the slugs have left them alone, but yesterday afternoon we had a massive thunderstorm, hail and all... so this morning some are looking a bit flat, but not so bad as I thought!

When your radish look like this it is time to scoff. These are about 8/9 weeks.

You should see the little radishes forming at soil level and some of them pop above it as they get bigger. One of the problems I had last year was loads of leaves and nothing much underneath. I believe this was due to over-watering (eager beginner!) so this year I am being far more stingy with the watering.

I grow in containers mostly and it can be hard to judge as things dry out so much faster than in the soil! I planted my radishes two weeks ago and I can already see baby radishes forming.

Gemma, be frugal with the water, radish is very forgiving. I forgot to water the other day and the pot you see above was completely wilted with the hot weather. I just dipped it in the pond behind and 3 hours later took that pic.

My radishes are now starting to show - I'm very pleased with them

Also, four of the carrot tops are now in view - whoop whoop!
