Couple of plants to identify

First up is a mystery plant growing in a container used for a peony! Definitely didn't plant anything else that I was aware of - is it a tomato or a weed?

Second is supposed to be rocket (herb not wild) I have loads of this growing. I have tasted it and it tastes nothing like rocket and doesn't look very edible although I am certain it came from a packet saying rocket.

your rocket is definitely not rocket...i wouldnt recommend growing it in a container unless you literally dont have any garden/allotment to grow it in - cos it grows so fast and furious......

First one definately looks tomatoe-familyish! (solanacae? nightshade family? hmm)
Second one really doesn't look like rocket! But not sure what it is

Photo 1 definitely looks like a tomato seedling but no idea what the second one is I'm afraid!

I'm with the others on the tomato plant in the first pic, second one looks like a marigold, or maybe a weed?

If it said Rocket on the packet, it's a possibility you have bought Sweet Rocket (Hesperis matronalis) - the leaves do look a bit like that. Try Google Images. It's a tall growing perennail with the most wonderful scent and purple flowers.

Agree with Flum, looks very much like Sweet Rocket to me. Very pretty, but inedible! And the first is def a tomato. Never boring is it, this gardening lark!

Never heard of the sweet rocket, sounds lovely. I haven't put waste tomatoes in my compost for a couple of years now, but I still get tomato plants from it where I don't want them. Have you used your own compost in that tub?

Nope it's definitely rocket that is meant for salads, says so on the packet. I tasted some and it didn't taste anything like rocket. Can't imagine that Thompson Morgan would put the wrong seeds in the packet.

It's also very popular with the greenfly. I've given up trying to protect the plants now as it's prolific on them.

It's not sweet rocket - (my lottie is full of it and the leaves are a bit more hairy than that!) I suggest you get onto T&M to get them to solve the mystery for you - and send you some replacement seeds as well!

Right well that does it then, I'm going to complain! Will see what I get in return. When I found a foreign object in my tesco king prawns.......... oh never mind that's a different story.

Thanks for your advice. Thing is I keep planting the stuff thinking I've gone mad. Must stop.
