Straggly onions - help please

I planted some Sturon onion sets a couple of months ago in a mix of soil and compost.

All the sets have grown but the leaves are twisted and straggly although the plants seem to be healthy at soil level.

I planted another group a few weeks ago in plain soil and these sets (from the same pack) all have nice upright leaves.

Is anything wrong with the first lot?

maybe a bit too much feed in the compost you mixed with your soil causing the onions to grow a bit soft leafwise. I'd let them grow on.

They look sturdy and healthy where they emerge from the ground. I'll leave them be for now then.

Oh thanks for posting, I have the same problem with mine was was going to whip them out but now I will leave them. :-)
