Hi A couple of my onions are throwing up a flower stalk. I have cut one off and pulled up the onion. Can I just cut the flower off - will the onion get any bigger? Or should I just pull them! Its only a few so its not too terrible!

I just pull em and chuck em on the compost heap. Some use them before they develop very far after throwing a flower head but they won't swell much now. -
p.s. Out of 50 over wintered onions, I have three bolted so although disappointing to have any bolted it also isn't too bad.Comment

If I spot a flower bud I nip them off. However whilst the onions don't store well, they are still useable - if sometimes a little hollow!Comment
