  • are my carrots forked?

Growing carrots for the first tme this year. I have read that for parsnips it is detrimental for the seedling's roots to meet the bottom of the pot or modules as this can distort the final crop and cause forking.
Is the same true with carrots? I have got some carrots growing in modules, a few seeds in each. Just checked on them today and noticed the roots were starting to come through the bottom of the module...... are my carrots forked?

      Quality Heywayne,

Cheeseplum, most probably they will fork. carrots are one of the few crops that I grow in-situ for that very reason.

ok, thanks. I have only put a few in modules, the rest have gone straight in ground/ container (although no signs yet and they went in 3/4 weeks ago)?
I may plant on the module ones for a bit of a giggle to see what happens! May win most forked carrot competition......

        Aplogies for language. Friday afternoon........

Sorry, I couldn't resist! Did make me chuckle though...

I was watching a re-run of Rick Stein's Food Heros (he does irritate me sometimes that man), and he was talking to a chap who grows carrots in the Fens (his name escapes me as I type this), and he was saying that people should concentrate on how the carrot tastes, and not just how it looks.

I reckon tasty forked carrots might be a big seller!

Why do I keep thinking of a two Ronnies sketch?
