  • tomato plant trimmings!

does anyone know if tomato plant 'trimmings' are ok for my rabbit to eat? i can't see why not...but felt the need to check! he eats pretty much everything else, so its not like he's a fussy soul. The tomato plant in question is getting bigger and bigger and bigger....its taking over the blowaway - it sort of reminds me of the pictures of jack and the beanstalk, yes but i know its tomatoes not beans...well not yet anyway! xx

No, I wouldn't - tomatoes and potatoes are relatives of deadly nightshade and the foliage is poisonous for humans so I wouldn't risk it for a rabbit.

Many of the plants from the solanacae (tomato) family are poisonous so the trimmings won't do your rabbit any good. Having said that animals tend to have a natural aversion to harmful foods so I doubt if the rabbit will eat them anyway.

This is odd - my chickens eat any tomato plants they can get hold off - even stick their heads through the louvre to get to the leaves in the greenhouse! They've not yet come to any harm..

But anything else in the garden that's not good for them to eat, they'll leave well alone. Though, these are chickens

As above, I'd not feed them to your rabbit.. just incase it does eat them and then gets unwell.

NO!NO!NO! Will make bunny very unwell. The others are right -relative of deadly nightshade, and by the same token don't feed potato leaves or anything that grows from a bulb (daffodils etc)
I know some animals do have a natural aversion to eating something that would be bad for them but domestic rabbits sometimes don't have the sense they were born with!
Shouldn't really feed lettuce either as it can gice them the runs.
