Similar story from me. I had always pottered at veg gardening, got a greenhouse which I have partly used over past few years.
Last year I put my name down on council list expecting a long wait, and 3 months later I was offered a half plot. It was around May/June time so only used partly last year. Fortunately I did have some seedlings ready to use at home. So I have filled my half plot totally this year, and have just been offered the 2nd half of my plot 2 weeks ago. Great timing!!
I am 49 next month, and all my children are growing up. I don't think I could have been successful with an allotment with a young family. I was too busy. So this has been an ideal time for me, and I find it very theraputic.
