Hi all,

I have a 3 year old balckberry plant in a 50cm diameter pot with a 75cm length and usually each year it produces two runners for next years growth. However this year it has only produced 1 runner from its base!

Any ideas why - pot bound? should i just bin it?

Also I have noticed this year that not all the buds on the stalks have go into leaves, could this be a nutrient issue?

I am thinking of just repotting it at the end of the season with fresh soil, and possibly a bigger pot, just wanted to ask another opinion.

Does it have to be in a pot? Blackberries generally do much better in open ground.

My blackberry is in an home made wooden planter which is a 2`6" cube and it still needs extra feeding.

It gets a top dressing of BFB at the start of the season, followed by Miracle grow for plant development and then as the fruit sets I change to tomorite for lots of potash.
