Pepper and chilli plant problem

Hi all

My chillies and peppers are still in my dining room (just because I have had no room in the greenhouse to move them to), but they now seem to be infested with tiny flies which are all over the plants, the soil and now my curtains . I have cleared some space in the greenhouse for them now but don't want to infest everything else in there. Also, the leaves are looking blistered and shrivelled - they seem to start with the top leaves then travel down the plant. Does anyone know what the flies are and whether they are the cause of the blistered leaves? Is there anything I can do to save the plants or should I compost/burn them? They can't live in the house anymore!

Take you plants up to the bathroom and shower them off. Sounds ridiculous, but a friend of mine did the same to his plants with no adverse effects other than a bit of soil in the shower tray Then take them straight outside so they don't get re-infested from the dining room... Don't put them in the greenhouse until you've examined the plants and squished any remaining bugs (put gloves on if you're a bit squeamish).

Could the flies be fungus gnats?

If you are keeping the compost too wet it will likely be fungus gnats, but they're likely not your problem with odd blistered leaves.
