Shaun, if you like cheap instead of large plastic pots for some of your plants you could use the fabled Morrisons black buckets. Many people on the vine use them very successfully. 8 for 99p just remember to put a hole in the bottom for drainage.

Shaun I got some industrial pots from a local tree nursery, they dont look pretty but they are frost proof, strong and once earth etc is in them, cant blow over. They also retain moisture in summer. It might be worth asking around locally

For Terracotta I use Yorkshire Pots as they have a frostproof lifetime guarantee and Mr VVG makes up wooden stuff with pressure treated timber.

I've bought some of those plastic ones that look a bit like terracotta. I've got a few metal ones as well but have lined them with bubblewrap before filling with soil so as to try to insulate against temperature extremes. I like the terrazzo/fibreglass ones, I got a couple that were a bit bashed on the one side (in fact one had a big hole smashed in to it) and got a bit knocked off the price for that - its up against a wall so makes no odds to me that one side is a bit bashed.
