  • Butternut squash

    Its my first year growing BNS and I seen to have been sucessfull, the fruits are big 18inches long and weigh about 5/6 lbs. what I need to know is when do they turn the normal colour as mine are green at the mo ?.

    Are you absolutely sure they are butternuts? They don't normally get that big.

      Mine were never green but yellowy going to a bit more orangie as they got bigger.

      Could they be a new variety or infact a completely different squash?

        They are same shape as bns and have grown like the plant ( same as plot next door) but they are very big I agree.Sadly I can't find seed pack (fothergills or wilko's). Any one any Idea what they could be? as they must be some kind of squash.

            Thats what make sit a bit more fun then I suppose. Anyone want a squash that will feed Bedfordshire as there are three!

              I got one that big last year, the rest weren't as big but they did start off a pale mottled almost like a very young light green courgette colour before they changed into buff.
              Pat yourself on the back, but not with the squash, otherwise you'll injure yourself
