I got my garden at the end of june, i really enjoyed it but as it was just on loan untill they decide what they are doing with the house i was always worried they were going to sell and i would be left high and dry again, so i decided to put my name down for an allotment about 4 weeks ago, spoke to the man who sorts them out yesterday and he says i have an allotment, he is away for a week, when he returns he will go mark it out and its mine, am chuffed to bits now, i am able to put my greenhouse up somewhere and get some use from it, happy days.

Still got the other garden, and i will use it, but no fear of losing everything now.

For info purposes, it is a new allotment, as they bought a bit more field from the farm next door, so at the moment it is just a grass plot, will get some piccies when i go up there.

My plan is to strip the turf and stack it upside down around the edges to die down and be dug back in next year, obviosly get my greenhouse up, am worried my erection may be too big its 12 foot long and 8 foot wide !!

I want to put some fruit bushes in, so looks like a cage and netting over part of it, a large water tank, with space under it for a compost heap, blimey i will have soon used all the space up, the plot is 8m x 15m.

    Rob.

      Great use of words there

Space under the water tank for a compost heap? If it's an IBC you're going to get they're extremely heavy when full so make sure your structure can take the weight of a full one!

Pretty good timing too, if you can get the turf off, you can leave some of the frosts to break up the soil.

12'x'8... you may think it's large now, but when you've stuffed it you'd be wishing you had a 24'x'16 hehe

Yes it looks like i have my work sorted for every spare minute in the next few weeks.

As for the water tank, i have a 1000ltr tank i was going to use, and have a steel frame for it to sit on made from 3" angle so plenty strong enough.

Your right about my ''erection, it looks huge but having used one a few times always think a bit bigger wouldnt hurt, am sure there wont be a spare inch left when we are up and running.

Am off this afternoon to the garden centre to look at fruit bushes to put in a cage as very keen on having some of those.

Have done some sums, i will have room for the greenhouse, a fruit cage of 15 ft x 12ft and that leaves a veg plot about 43ft x 26ft, just hope thats big enough for all the spuds, i do love me tatties.

              well done

and remember you don't have to spend a fortune of fruit: fellow allotmenteers will be glad to give you strawberry runners and raspberry suckers, for free

Blackcurrants are easy too, just cut off a 12" piece of branch and stick it in the soil
