Hi im just starting aswell have been to my local garden centre as seeds are 50p per packet at mo before season starts also have invested in a roll of weed fabric from amazon it has got 15 yr guarentee seems to be trick for past 3 months

very lucky to have an allotment , started off with half a plot in october and they asked me if a i wanted the whole , which the answer was a definite yes . hopefully i will be lucky enough to grow something but wondering how many seeds i need

As for seeds, well, we all neeeeed seeds, it's an affliction. Personally, I have more than I'll ever sow. I also have a jar full of Yin-Yang Bean that I keep purely to look at...

Sarah, you need to buy seeds for everything you want to grow, then double it! Best to start with the things you really like and the veg that grow quickly and easily - so you see almost instant results. Then all the hard work seems worthwhile. And start small, don't try to cultivate the whole plot immediately. There are lots of expert allotment gardeners on here (I'm not one) and they'll be happy to help. Just ask away. One more thing you need to know - lots of us have a very silly sense of humour!!

THB VC until I got on here I just got seedlings from local garden centre & grew on,last year started on the seeds,this year I got that many packets I have to hide them from the wife,you lot are a bad influence on a young whipper snapper like me

Seed addiction! I recognise the symptoms. Incurable, I'm afraid. On a quiet night, I bring out my seeds and sort them. Its so reassuring, just knowing that they're here. Then there's choosing which packet to sow next and the joy of watching them come to life, all because of me - Working a tiny miracle. And the ultimate high, eating one of my offspring.
Yesterday I sowed lemon grass, today salad bowl lettuce, tomorrow garlic cloves! I can taste them already!

Now you're talking! Has to be a proper paper seed catalogue - that you can read anywhere, and scribble on and drool over... And the excitement of receiving seeds in the post, dropping through the letterbox, tearing open the envelope, poring over the descriptions, sorting, filing, finally sowing, and off we go again.
Not to mention the delights of the seed swaps, when seeds take on an extra personality. No longer are they just tomatoes - they are So and So's tomatoes. Stop me, I'm babbling again!
