Pics of new allotment

Here are some before and after pics of the new allotment. Look at the pile of rubbish that was in the shed and greenhouse. The council claims they will take it away but time will tell. May have to just build a fence around it!!!

Is there anything useful in amongst that pile, I can't quite see clearly enough, but there looks like some grey alkathene pipe there suitable for making a support framework for cloches, a bin for a water butt and an old pane of glass in a frame good for a cold frame lid. Some of the wood could also be cut up to edge beds.

A pile of rubbish to one man can be a treasure trove to another!!

Not all allotment committees let plots get that bad Colin, I have two plots on different allotments and you would not believe the difference between the two committees, where my full plot is you have to keep on at the committee to sort things like overgrown plots and other matters, on the other the committee is on top of everything, the plots are not aloud to become overgrown and you can almost always find one of them on there plot or in the lottie shop at most times of the day. I would join the committee on the second lottie but I've turned down the opportunity on the first plot as I'd end up doing it all myself..

Can I just say that if a plot gets overgrown it isn't necessarily the responsibility of the committee to clear it . If some one is not working their plot and allows it to get into that state then the committee usually has a procedure to follow before the person can be evicted. Unless of course you want a plot on a site that's run like the one in the film Grow Your Own .........

Not saying its the committees responsibility to clear any plots But it is there responsibility to send letters out or find out why the plots on being kept right, all I was saying was that one of my allotment committees are really really slow when I comes to there responsibilities. (the plot next to me has put the home made compost heap on the path that runs between my plot and there's and it keep spilling onto my plot but because there pally with a few of the committee get there to do something about it has taken months)

Thanks so much for all the words of encouragement. It really helps! Spent some more time this weekend at the allotment. Some more pics below.



The council had actually cleared that massive pile of rubbish! I was impressed. The only thing that bothers me is we were told not to burn painted wood so when I had the bonfire last time I sorted out all the painted wood. Strangely it was sorted out of the pile and left behind so now I need to figure out how to get it to the tip.

Still all-in-all good service me'thinks. It helped last time I was out the local county counsellor popped round and said he would make a call for us. He has an allotment close to ours. Nice.

painted wood ... I need to figure out how to get it to the tip.

Wood piles are very good habitats for beneficial insects like beetles and spiders. I would make a wood pile somewhere out of the way
