Advice appreciated please... last season I had a real problem with mice, they ate my peas/beans and beat me to all the ripe tomatoes, making a real mess of my greenhouse. Any advice welcome please.... Thanks:

I only garden in containers but still keep 6 traps to hand. I bait the traps using what they are taking (usually peas) and wear rubber gloves so as not to leave to much human scent.

Forgot to say saw some advice on here last year 2Sheds I think, recommending that you chit your peas and beans and this puts the mice off. Worked for me last year.

Pull yourself together, gardenpassion. This is a fight for life. Are you going to let the vermine take the food out of your baby's mouth? I've got them on my plot and in my garage so have used traps. Mind you, I wouldn't go out & destroy those who behave themselves. I grow my veg. for my use, so don't want the nibbled - by mice or slugs. That's an other story. This is meant to be lighted. I don't actively dislike mice, They can be cute, (as in "The Tailor of Gloucester") I just don't like them so close to my hard-worked for food. There's pleasure sure in being mad that only madmen know - Anon

Yes, you are right, such sentiment will spare the vege! but they are a bit cute when not eating my vege! Not sure about a fox but was wondering about getting a hedgehog to keep slugs down!passionate about plants

Meanwhile, back to the topic. if you don't want to kill the mice (and I wouldn't because I'm squeamish) you have to take preventative measures. How do they get into the greenhouse? Underground or through the door? Whichever it is, try to block it.

if the allotment does not have a local cat living nearby
you will have to form some kind of trap they are living in paridise they live there and some stanger comes along every year and plant new seeds - plants fruit bushes and strawberrys ... free food.... the same as pigeons they were there first you came and planted and now you will have to protect your crops...

The only thing with traps is sometimes they don't quite work .......a couple of years ago one trap yielded an ear ........
If I plant peas out then I peg down chicken wire over the top . My grandad used to roll his peas in a mixture of paraffin and red lead .....not sure if that is actually safe tho'.S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig
