Finally getting rid of the weeds - hopefully!

First sentence - don't bother, just sharpen your hoe, it's cheaper and quicker.
Second sentence/question - I'd put something a bit sturdier than weed control fabric along the bottom if it's brambles. Got an broken slabs, slate, thick wood or something similar? The first two will keep them out a darn sight longer than the third, and a darn darn sight longer than fabric

True story - one of the things I've had to deal with was digging out concrete edging strips around the sides of the lawn. They had sunk over the years after being put in by the previous house owner...annoying things and they've been in the corner whilst I wonder about selling them, taking then down the tip....or just throwing over the fence to do battle with those brambles!!

Now I've got a brilliant idea for them - cheers Taff! dig them in a little and cover them with my free compost = a lovely dry stone wall bed ready for a few perinnial plants at the back along with veg in the front (it's over 3ft to the back of the bed so plenty of room). Plus the brambles have to work hard o get under the fence - they'll get there in the ears, but least they'll have to work at it!

More widely - hoe and throw away, or is it enough to just hoe? Picking up the weeds makes it look tidy, but does it matter if I miss one? Perrinial weeds get the full treatment - hate them with a passion!

On a hot day you can hoe & leave: the hot sun will crisp & kill the weeds. In the damp they can survive for weeks.
I've kept a dandelion in the dark, but wet, for a couple of months and it's still alive. There's a story that Bob Flowerdew nailed a dandelion to his shed door for a year, then put it back in the soil and it regrew

More important to pick up if there are flowers/seed heads on them. If a weed reroots in damp soil, you will always catch it the next time if you hoe regularly.
