So excited!!

I just thought I would share my excitement with everyone!

For a couple of weeks I have been putting off Ringing about an allotment - just because I don't like making phone calls! Anyway yesterday I bit the bullet and phoned my local allotment associations secretary! A very very nice lady! She said hopefully I will have one by Easter! How exciting is that!!

I meant to ask her how much it would cost but I forgot! Could anyone please tell me how much you pay for yours - if it's not to personal a question! Thank you!

Well done you. I don't like phoning people I don't know either but often come away wishing I'd done it earlier. Could you brave another phone call to find out or do you know someone who has one on the site? Prices vary hugely. I pay £15 for a quarter plot (2.5 rods or 60m2)
You could get some seed potatoes to start off as they're all in the garden centres now, or order online.

You're very lucky to have the chance of one so quickly. Check your local council website - there may be some information there about charges.

You don't HAVE to accept this allotment if it is in a terrible state. If you do refuse it you should still be at the top of the list. If it is marginal, I should ask the council if they can give you any help in the way of heavy machinery to shift weeds and rubbish.

Excellent news

As the others have said, rents vary. And not just across the country but even a few miles.

Bite the bullet and make another call. You did it once.

As for if it's in a really neglected state...you may be able to get a few months knocked off the rent

That's great news, a whole new world awaits! I once got a plot quite late in the season and it was in quite a state - enlist lots of family friends now to help you get started at Easter so you don't miss out on the growing season - maybe tell them it's a new type of egg hunt!! are you going to start any plants off inside? What are your must grows? I'm getting excited for you now! Please keep us posted - pics would be fab!

Congrats!!

When I got my plot, their was a load of waist land at the back.
So I thought I would make a start on that.

I hacked it all back placed a polly tunnel and agave it a good clean.
As I was new to all this, didn't realize that was not my plot.
Found out after a couple of weeks (due to the tunnel) that this was anther plot nobody wanted due to the state.

The short part of this is I ended up with a whole plot free for a year!
