Am re-reading "We made a garden" by Margerie Fish. She keeps saying she used "cottoning" to keep birds off of seeds etc.

      What is "cottoning"?? Thanks!

I think it may be when you tie lengths of cotton between canes in a criss cross pattern which prevents the birds landing on you seeds?

it's what builders use,a safety netting to contain flying debri/builders rubbish,if you look on any large site, you will see it,it's mostly green, but have seen blue in use,

Sorry - was correcting spelling rather that querying. Handy though as I always assumed it was that large holed orange plastic netting some people use!

The ones I don't understand are usually BH (which I now know to be better half, he's not, we're equal but would always call him OH as in other half), DD / DS etc - think this is darling which is a word that makes me shudder and think of mwwwahhhhh kisses, eughhhhhhhhhh. Am usually OK with most of the gardening ones as they're usually the official phrase abbreviated (there are exceptions ) but some of the others are just acronyms for phrases I'd never use in real life - I mean it took me several years to discover that LOL was laugh out loud (are people really doing this when they say they are?) and not lots of love!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I don't concern myself about LOL but when people ROFPML I have very serious worries for their muscle weaknesses - and the carpet.

I usually have to google ones like that to find out what they mean which kind of takes it away however I have got a friend with this medical problem since childbirth

I'm guessing that they don't draw attention to it in text messages though!
