I hope so too bins. Advice isn't always rose tinted and I am sure all agreements are different......but I felt it worth mentioning so his eyes are open too! Forewarned etc.

You're right, you can't pass on allotments yourself, or take someone else's on without a formal contract/agreement/tenancy

If someone new turned up on our site and started working a plot, questions would swiftly be asked. Not to say they'd necessarily lose the plot (haha, see what I did there?)

Actually it's a big issue on our plot. Helpers are even being pressured to leave. Especially if theY help the plot holder more than the pLotholder cultivates themselves.

Another anomaly is that civil partners who are not married are not allowed to succeed their partners and take over a plot. This is ridiculous and outdated but the council won't budge. God knows what would happen if the partners were the same sex!

So the only pin I'm waving is the equality pin.........trust me!

... and possibly illegal? What with equal rights and all?
"Civil partners are entitled to the same property rights as married opposite-sex couples" according to Wiki (I haven't time to look into it right now)

The society recently produced a plan of the plot to give to new and existing plot holders. We put the names of the people who regularly attend the plot to cultivate.

The council asked for a copy of the plan and then asked us to remove the second names on the plan because they were not plot holders and had no rights........

The plan was to help newbies find their way around an get to know the people around them.......

They (the council) are now using said plan to instruct contractors etc!!!

On my site Jim would not be allowed to take on the plot. Partners cannot even inherit a plot, but you are allowed a named helper. There is a car park but only the plot holder can park there.
