  • Getting carried away...

ok, is it common to get carried away your first year of GYO??
My original plan was some herbs, a few containers, maybe some strawberries and potatoes....
Ive already got more seeds collected then I have beds to put them in, planted rhubarb and raspberries, potted up some strawberries and just spent a fortune ordering 3 minarette fruit trees (2 apples, early and late and a plum), a blackberry and blueberry!!
Im also growing seeds for herbs I hadnt even heard of this time last year!!

Am I a complete nutter or is there any cure for this 'illness'??

I'm sorry I can't offer you any hope - it will only get worse.

You're not a complete nutter - but you will be after a few years. Believe me, I'm an expert!!
The cure comes from eating the fruit and veg that you grow - its the best medicine there is and you'll enjoy taking it. Until then, as they say, keep taking the tablets.....

Yes, I agree fully with your first sentence, except the in 'your first year' bit.... I'm currently growing 11 varieties of tomato, and 17 types of chilli and pepper, in preparation for a polytunnel that I may be getting for my birthday in May. If I don't manage to afford it, I have to wedge them all into a 6x8 greenhouse And I've been growing veg for nigh on 10 years

OMG, it really is hopeless then!!
well, at least I dont feel so bad now that I want to experiment with 2 types of strawberries and tomatoes in different growing mediums. Clearly I have a long way to go yet!!

Welcome to the club. I also intended to do a few basics...potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries etc. After just a few short weeks I've sown the above, plus lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, beetroot, parsnips, peppers, chillies, onions, spring onions, carrots, chives and cress. I also intended to just grow in a greenhouse this year but now have an 8' long by 4' wide L-shaped raised bed too..oh yeah, there's also the three hanging baskets.

Relax, there's no hope for you.

Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Sell the surplus plants at car boots and raise the money for a bigger growing patch.

It'll take years though...living the dream!

I have 30 tom seedlings, 3 different varieties. have been told on my allotment site not to bother growing on my lottie because it's exposed and suffers blight every year. (I only grow early potatoes so dig up before blight strikes). Garden just not big enough.

May start another thread about this.

I have seeds I don't even remember buying, they're still unopened! I think I'm going to go through my seed box in a couple of weeks and offer the ones I'm not going to grow up for grabs

Mind you, I'm not as bad as some people.... some people have TRUGS of seeds! (looks at zaz)

You must look out for other symptoms.......being drawn to garden centres.......skip dipping........watching country file on tv.....not to mention GW on series link.........trawling YouTube for growing and allotment videos......having photos of your efforts as screen savers on your puters.........

Can anyone think of any more symptoms for kentishgirl to be aware of?

                  Loving my allotment!

Boring everyone on your Facebook to death by posting photographs of every plant you grow, and filling your status updates with news of what you've sown/germinated/planted-out/harvested...

Realising you are still in the greenhouse in your pjs when you should be ready for work
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I started out with one raised bed and a huge lawned area. The veg beds keep on getting bigger and the lawn just seems to be disappearing .......
