Growing aubergines

Any advice on growing aubergines in a greenhouse? They seem to be doing quite well and are about 3" tall at the moment. I've an idea that they don't need a very big pot and after pinching out, fruit grows on laterals, is this correct?

yup it doesn't matter how early you sow them -as long as you have enough space to grow them until they can go out

Mine have been in the green house for several weeks now,but are only aprox 2in high,when larger plants,mine go into flower buckets with holes in the bottom,stand in a tray,all watering is done by filling up the tray and feed now and then,personaly i just let them get on with it,never had any bother only the flippin spikes on the leaves,owwwch,they grow quite tall,about 4ft,but do watch out for red spider mite,to late when the leaves go yellow then fall off,

I always sow my aubergines at the end of January as I find that later sowings don't seem to work for me. They're still dead little at the moment and will be inside until at least mid May when they'll get planted out into the polytyunnel. By that stage they'll be in 5" pots. I have grown them in pots in the past in the greenhouse and went for ones which were about 10" ish but have found they do a lot better in the border. Never pinch anything out and they form nice compact and sturdy plants with a few fruit per plant. Last year wasn't a great year but they year before I had loads.

*whispers..........mine were sown in January , they live in the consevatory at the moment but will move into the gh in a month or so , never pinch anything out and also give 'em a tickle when they flower .

Erm..... no. They were cosseted in my heated propagator. still doing well.

I've heard that they like high humidity but can't remember where I heard that from .

Mine are in the GH in the day and in the house at night - they look pretty happy and slightly furry at the moment

They certainly don't get high humidity when you see them growing in gardens round the med

The Aubergine analogue study is sat in the wendy house, and has been for a few days. Might throw a bit of fleece over them in the next few days if it is going to get cold. Seem to be okay, but you never know!

Mine are growing roots out the bottom of their 3in pots already I'll have to pot them on again!
