  • Some questions and advice sought

Hi all, please take a look at this pic:

In the intro section I had laid out some of my ideas, now it was suggested not to plant brocolli and caulis which I think I'll plant elsewhere. I still have a section there for brassica which is easy removed, probably to grow more onions/shallots.

I have white+red onion sets and shallot sets and about a million white lisbon seeds and autumn king carrots.

    Questions:
With the onions, it's not too late for these is it? Is worth planting all the sets or shall I do a succession sowing? Same really for carrots, is too late to succession sow?

    Advice:

I've marked some areas where I thought I might grow a soft fruit hedge (wind break and fruit) and maybe some rose bushes (simply for looks). Is the job worth doing? I'll have to move the comfrey i've got (if I can!!)

I'm putting down well rotted horse muck and MP compost later today. I've read about the manure forking carrots so I won't but as much under them, maybe an inch on top of the soil topped with MP compost.

    Cheers all.

    Extra one,

as it will be square foot style, how much care do I need to give to crop rotation? Just thinking I could move the peas so they don't shadow the carrots.

You're pushing it, but get them in. Spring onions can be sown all year long

Carrot season is only just starting, you're fine

        Thanks Two Sheds.

I'm not dead set on them, might just put in standard (ish) hedges. I'll put roses in the front garden

Best not to put any either under or over where the carrots are due to go. Fine, sandy type soil is best.

Roses? Nasty spiteful things if you have to garden anywhere near them. If you're determined to grow them near the fence, make sure you have enough room to bend over and tend your raised bed without being spiked!

Hmm, definitely thinking of growing some kind of fruit based hedge instead.

Roses will be for the front garden only
