    My cucs are still on the living room windowsill - first true leaves just starting to show. Far too cold and wet here to put them outside yet. We need some sunshine.

      Okay just take out of the pot and put into water to generate better root systems.
      I've got it now. I have rooted lemongrass and mint this way in the past.

        Not quite. Cucs usually die from the root upward so putting the roots into water would not work. If they are not dead cut of about 6" of the leader and pop this in a milk bottle of water. Check the water level often and keep topped up 7/10 later they will have developed a new root system and be ready for potting up.

        Also works well with Toms

          Mine are in the conservatory .....unheated but southfacing so get plenty of light . There's no heating in there but if I think there's chance of frost I give them a blankie even tho' it's frost proof.
