  • Over watered?????

I've noticed the last couple of days my calebrese, sprouts and cauli seedlings have a few odd looking leaves. A bit curled up and papery looking. Although they've had regular waterings, I've been very careful not to over water my seedlings and have also made sure I don't water from above.

A few days ago I caught the OH watering them from above and he'd saturated them. Now their leaves have gone strange! Is it from over watering?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Don't know if they're over-watered or not but my broccoli and cabbage have very hydrophobic leaves, I would imagine it's the same for cauli's and sprouts, so I wouldn't worry about watering from above because they just shed all the water instantly.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

My youngest used to think it was great that they were waterproof!

So you mean to tell me I can't blame the OH now if they don't survive

I'm hoping that they'll be ok as they've got 2 or 3 healthy looking leaves on each plant. Would I be best trying to pull the affected leaves off?

Is it the seed leaves, Moo, the lowest couple of leaves on the stem? If so don't worry about them. they always shrivel and die off!

No, it's the true leaves VC. It's only 1 or 2 on a few of the plants. I've checked to see if there's any little critters lurking on them that shouldn't be and they're all clear.

A couple of my butternuts have got withered looking seed leaves, so I'm glad that's normal!

I've got plenty of other healthy seedlings so I should be ok. I have moved them away from the funny looking ones though just in case!

Thanks for the advice and words of wisdom x

My calabrese got water logged in their pots three weeks ago, my fault for not checking. The leaves went patchy (very light brown). I feared the worst and reset seed, however they have come through and are now well on their way. I would wait and see as per VC.

Is there something going on that I don't know about tonight? People are agreeing with me

They're inside Taff. They're sitting on a spare bedroom window sill that gets lots of light, but not full direct sun.

Might be better out in the fresh air, at least during the day.

Blame him anyway...he'll be more careful next time.

Is he allowed to water them? I reckon in future only under strict supervision for health and safety reasons.

I might give that a try rustylady. I'm in work all day tomorrow and Friday, so may wait until Saturday when I can keep an eye on the weather. We've had terrible hailstorms the last couple of days and I'd hate them to be outside if that happens again and I can't rescue them!
