Onion Sets - too late??

Hi

Can anyone let me know if I am too late to plant onion sets? (I am in East Anglia) I've just moved allotments and am a bit worried as everyone else seems to have had theirs in ages!

Just put mine in yesterday here in the North East! Sometimes planting onion sets too early can cause them to bolt

They are still selling them at my local store so i beleive it is still ok to plant.
Also says to continue planting shallots if not already done so on my gardening calender!
My shallots are just coming up green now.

Drifting off thread a bit, the gardening expert book says onion seeds should be in by the beginning of April. I've not grown onions befor and thought about having a go from seed. Has anyone planted seed this late or should I leave it 'till next season?

Sorry terrier, never done seeds. Grow so easy from sets that i didnt want to waste the space in the greenhouse.

Only grow bigguns from seed and they were sown in December!

Mine have been in for some time - now shooting well. However, yesterday I 'found' some that I'd intended to carry on planting (when I'd stopped for a rest!) so I bunged them in. I can pretend it's deliberate successional growing!

they are called senior moments a comment about seeds or set we have found that seeds do not bolt to seed like set do

Going to plant some sets tonight that I was given a couple of weeks ago. I've got some seeds that have been in (pots) for a few weeks now with varying degrees of success... They look a bit spindly to be honest.

Last year i didn't get my allotment till May and I put the onion sets in around the middle of that month. Got quite a decent crop but none of a massive size. Last year i grew Stuttgarter. Kept well only lost about a dozen or so from storage.This year i've gone for Stureon and a red one called Red Baron..Hope this helps with choices.

My sets have started to sprout and I only got them in about 2 weeks ago. Mind you thats in west yorkshire.
