Cucumber plant, leaves turning brown!!

Your cucumber has turned light green because it is over-ripe. You should have cut it to eat days ago.

I don;t really know much about cucumbers.
It's better now it is off because I had tied the plant up to keep it off the ground, but I have loosened it now as it's leaves (what's left of them lol) were covering each other.

I also cut off another one on the other pot plant which was green but maybe slightly yellowing at the bottom, I noticed another flower on that one so hopefully I will get another.

I was going to put it in the ground but it too wet now.

One thing which I noticed was that the bad plant had more compost in it's pot the better
one seem to have more soil, although there will be some compost under the soil which you can't see.




above the bad plant with the black compost, that came from Aldi, but I have used it elsewhere
because I bought 40 litres of it and there is hardly any left and nothing else seems to be
affected so badly. The one in the ground pictured in post 40 seem to be doing better or at least no
worse, there does not appear to a lot of new yellow or brown on it anyway.
If it stays dry I will try and put the bad one in the ground this evening.
It will be more sunny there but but it has been the most shaded this past week so the shade
does not appear to have helped.

You can see the better plant's pot and soil which has some grass growing in it because the soil
came from my lawn and it had not quite died yet lol, but the plant seems to be doing OK
in comparison.

Like the ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ lady said that should have been cut some time ago. Leaving ripe fruit on a plant will switch it off it thinks its done its job and reproduced next years plant.Colin

I thought it might grow bigger, the ones you see in the shops are bigger but maybe they are a different
type, anyway I cut it off and another one which was same size but greener on the better plant.

According to one of the seed companies Marketmore produces cucumber up to 8 inches long, so they will never get as long as supermarket ones.

Yes, I don't think they grow real long like the ones in the shops, I measure then at 5" each, which is reasonable enough, hopefully they will think about producing another one, the best plant already has a flower on it.

Well latest up date is the bad plant seem to be no better or worse, (one is definitely worse, there is not much left of it lol) that one is is the ground. The good on is the pot is still good and still doing well, has had a few flowers and i see some tiny cucumbers behind them. There is also a couple of tiny flowers on the worst one but it does not have one decent leave on it so I don't see how it can make a cucumber.
So looks like I am relying the one in the pot, which I think should go in the ground soon.

I could do I suppose but I think I only have one bigger, maybe I will do that, it's the easiest option I guess
unless it look like it will outgrow that one soon too then I might as well stick it in the ground.

Here they all are, the one is the pot, which is by far the best, is now in the ground.
I think two have some sort of disease as their growing condition have been basically the same.
Not sure whether to dig 'the ugly' up or not, I will give it another week but I think it is
getting worse.

and The Ugly!! I note the new leaves are good so I wonder if cutting off the others would help,
might stop the disease spreading, but if I cut off the bad leaves, there will not be much left of it.

I will cut off the bad bits I think and see what happens.

Looks like this one is pregnant again

If I am lucky this plant might keep me in cucumbers for a while, not expecting any more from the others
really but one has a cucumber on it which but it will probably be it's last.

OK two of the plants have shrivelled up and died, I named them the good the bad and the ugly.
Bad and ugly have been pulled up and thrown on the compost heap (gonna out them in the bin
if I can find them to stop disease spreading).

The good is going pretty strong with a new cucumber, no great loss really as I am not too keen
on cucumber anyway, but it's a knobbly cucumber, one of those above but a lot bigger now.
The others were much smoother so I don't know why that is.

OK I have just inspected my only good cucumber plant and noticed it has suddenly deteriorated with a similar problem to the first too.

It had been under a plastic cloche so I had not been able to see ti clearly but it seems to have gone bad in a pretty short time, 70% of the leaves seem to be shrivelled however it does have a decent sized healthy cucumber.

Not sure why it took a sudden turn for the worst, I had not been watering it much due to it being covered but I don't think it is lack of water, anyhow I watered it so if it was that might help it.
