I'm an utterly novice gardener in Scotland but as a veggie, I'd like to turn over my small walled back garden, small front garden, large utility room and window ledges to produce as much herbs, fruit and veg as I can, as cheaply as I can. I suppose this would mean it is going to be a kitchen garden. My front garden is only about 5 foot deep, my rear walled garden about 15 feet by 20.
I even have a 'sunny' (for Scotland) spare room but it seems the equipment for indoor gardening - hydroponics or similar are v. expensive.
What gardening techniques should I look into? I intend to put some raised beds and grow bags in my garden and I'm aware that square foot gardening is productive.
If you can give me hints or tips or point me to good websites on this topic, and things I need to consider, it would be appreciated, thanks.
