Reconmended Soil Tested Kits?

I was just wondering if anyone here reconmends any soil testing kit brand/product.

Hi Sam,

I have a Marshalls PH test kit, very simple to use, as to be for me to use it.

£10-90 inc P&P does 30 tests.

I've heard that a lot of them aren't that accurate so it's worth checking the pH of something like water and vinegar before you start as you have a good idea where they sit so if the vinegar is showing to be acidic then your test won't be worth anything.

Well spotted - must type slower and then maybe I'd notice that I was saying exactly the opposite of what I meant by missing out a not! Whilst it won't show if the test is calibrated exactly, it will at least show that it's indicating the right way.

Well, my water is hard with limescale, so the soil's bound to be alkaline.

*looks at what grows well: brassicas, check. My spuds get scab, and scab loves alkaline soil. Check

That's a good point actually TS, I've never bothered testing mine but the fact that all the gardens round here are full of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias etc is a fair indication that it's acid soil, have worked on this principle and gave lovely and healthy blueberries in the lottie soil.
