What pet waste can you compost, I know not to use cat or dog waste but what about birds? I noticed Two Shed says he uses bedding from his parrots on another post and it made me think about my birds. I have an aviary I cover the floor with wood pellet cat litter and have always thrown it away when I clean it out. Had thought about using some of it before but the worried about the seeds in it germinating and a tip I used to use made me put it in special bags marked as a biological hazard but the new one is not bothered as long as it goes in the non recyle skip.

I don't have birds, but I found this on a composting Q&A:
In general, you can use bird droppings in your compost pile. They’ll heat up and break down during the composting process, and the aerobic bacteria that heat up during composting will destroy any pathogens.

I also compost dog poo at home, in separate compost bins. The resulting compost goes on ornamental (not edible) plants.
Biological hazard? It could be, if flung about haphazardly. If it's composted, anything nasty is destroyed, over time. Or quicker, if it gets hot.
Read up on it a bit more, and get past the knee-jerkers who tell you it's dangerous: it's not.

The wood pellets will have to be well rotted before the compost is used or they'll absorb nitrogen from the soil, however if they take a little longer to break down it may give any seeds time to break down also. Don't know what sort of birds you keep but pigeon muck has very high NPK values.Location ... Nottingham
