I bought one of these yesterday for €10 for growing herbs, the lad said they'd suit strawberries too but I wasn't sure so I said I'd ask you lot. They were €20 but he gave it to me for €10 so if I thought there was a chance it'd work at all I wouldn't mind forking out another €10.

My first thought is herbs would be better as I think it would be difficult to keep strawberries sufficiently watered for them to thrive. Also if you planted one strawberry in each hole they would be competing for compost. Are often sold as strawberry pots though. Herbs are often from the Mediterranean so don't mind drier condtions. Thyme and sage in the sides, chives in the top?

It's about 18" high.
I'm not sure what herb seeds I have, didn't plant them yet. I never thought of chives in the top but I have those and it's a good idea.
I had strawberries in hanging baskets last year and it didn't work out that well. They spread like crazy so I didn't fancy putting them in the ground.

Before you fill it Darwin, put it on some wheels something like These so you can spin it round otherwise you will only have a half useful planter.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

I don't think strawberries work in them either - they're sometimes called Parsley pots. Make sure you put plants into it, not seeds, as they would struggle to germinate.
