I am so with you PT!
I've been keeping my diary, and starting to obsessively head out front and stick my head in my beds to see if the shoots (late planter) have grown another millimeter or not. How chuffed when I saw the first few, and now there arethings popping up all over the place. Including a few weeds, but they'll be easy to get out as we stuck to rows or patterns in a couple of instances.
Still waiting on my peas and parsnips to show any signs of life, but will be happy to eat lettuce all year if that's all that survives.
I love hearing how everyone else is doing, how they react to things and to know that we're all in this together even if we never meet each other or see each others veggie successes.
Must get myself a snappy quote like everyone else...

know what you mean scruffy
I have been thinking (but decided it might be a little obsessive on the bunny boiler side) of keeping a ruler in the greenhouse (unheated conservatory I have taken over) and measuring my seedlings every day just to see how much they have grown.

I've only just got 2 flowers on my peas - Markana - raised in yoghurt pots in the greenhouse. Lots of growth though and I'm really looking forward to joining you in the first taste!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Myfirst pea sowing is still nowhere near flowering, they seem to have stopped growing with all this cold weather. The second sowing are just popping their heads up, and THAT was exciting enough for me, goodness knows what I'll be like when I have actual peas!! Nice to know the rest of you are just as nuts!!Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

Finished off the over wintering peas last week - ate more at the plot than actually cooked, this years peas are nice and healthy with flowers (sown in March), Ithink peas/beans are my favourite for sowing as I love the way they burst through the soil

Well done PercyT! and no, you are not sad! It's just the most exciting thing isn't it when you eat something you've grown yourself! (some people might say better than s*x!! ). I grew my own veg for the first time last year and it was just wonderful nipping into the back garden, picking something fresh and within seconds cooking it! That's why I've got myself a little lottie - honestly, no pun intended! but "it grows on you!" Good luck and keep everyone posted! Bernie
PS OWG - of course you have to "taste test" your crops before you bring them indoors for eating! Doesnt everyone?Bernie aka DDL

My peas are flowering and I've got 1 pod. They're Kelvendon Wonder. I planted them in toilet rolls in the greenhouse on 19th March, and planted them out on 19th April. Glad this came up. It's reminded me to plant some more.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I'm there with you on the excited factor!!
When we planted our potatoes I watered, viewed, prodded the dirt, weeded and waited - I was so excited to see growth.
This is our first time as 'gardeners' and I have to say, hubby and I are poles apart with what we like and dislike and wanted a 'hobby' to enjoy together... think we've found it in our own back garden. I like the designing and flowers and watching seeds sprout into plants(typical mother ) he likes the digging, the planting out and the hopefully harvesting!
We keep trying to tell ourselves that this year is experimental and not to expect too much - but I know how disappointed I'll be if something goes wrong! Lets hope that with the choices, we're be successful in some if not all our plants!
Here's to our own veggies

Pea Success
Well I don't know what it's been like with you lot today, but we had a lovely sunny if not too hot day until 5 when the heavens opened.
However, I can't complain because when I checked my beds this morning, things were showing, but nothing too exciting, but by the time I got back from collecting my son from the childminder (decadent I know, but I need the time to do my dissertation) at about 6, loads more had popped up that definately weren't there earlier, including some peas. Oh, and more weeds which I thought I had thoroughly cleared...
I'm starting to write the weather into my diary too so we can see how it might have affected the veg.
Now all I need is something I acn eat other than the herbs.
Would it be obsessive to take photos of the progress to date???
